(Spoilers ahead!)
With the likes of Dexter over and American Horror Story still firmly on our screens as we speak, what other macabre televisual delights are on our way? What are the five most anticipated horror shows of 2014?
True Blood
Love it or hate it, True Blood returns this year for its seventh and final season. Showrunner Brian Buckner has taken to teasing a few plot details here and there, concerning our most beloved supernaturals. His drip-feed of cast announcements and story details mean anticipation is rife, well... for the fans anyway. All will be revealed come the summer months.
Speaking of vampires, The Strain is set to hit our screens in July. Created by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, FX have recently ordered a thirteen episode adaptation of the titular novel. It follows Dr. Goodweather and a team of survivors as they attempt to battle an ancient vampiric virus overpowering New York. Del Toro and vampires unite again? It's only right that we get a little excited.
Hannibal
Who's hungry? The second season of Hannibal returns February 28th and as luck would have it, a trailer has recently been released. From the looks of things the incarceration of Dr. Will Graham is only the tip of this crazy-iceberg, or the starter for your evening meal if you're into your food puns. We're in for some heightened psychological horror, compelling imagery and more Mads Mikkelsen - delicious.
The mid-season break is almost over, and The Walking Dead will return on February 9th. After the show's devastating cliffhanger, we can expect to see Rick and the gang mourning the loss of their safe (ish) haven and beloved friends and family. How will they cope broken apart and on separate paths? What new challenges will they face? If the trailer is anything to go by, we're in for a pretty tumultuous treat.
Okay so this isn't strictly horror, although if you didn't find the penultimate episode of Season Three a little horrifying, you have no soul. Nevertheless, winter is coming! Along with the same old emotional strife, action, dragons and bloodshed that we all know and love. But enough talk, let's get all excited and remind ourselves of the trailer again...
