A few odd bits and bobs have surfaced today. In the world of
promotion, the red band trailer for Aftershock (directed by Nicolás Lopez and
co-written by Eli Roth) has been released. The film sees an American tourist
and his friend’s holiday in Chile take a nasty turn as a powerful earthquake
devastates the city of Valparaiso. The trailer is available below...
The film looks like a nasty affair - and not in a
positive way. A leery and gratuitous eye, teamed with Roth’s complaints about
the modern dating pool are not exactly the most enticing concepts to lure in an
audience. Although evidently, the true action kicks off once the earthquake hits and causes a chaotic and nihilistic nightmare. Fangoria reports that the film is
great, successfully nailing a particular 1970s ‘scuzzy’ feel thanks to a modest
budget, however I am hardly trembling and nevertheless unconvinced. All will be
revealed as soon as the film hits our screens on May 10th, 2013.
The first official
poster for Lars von Trier’s upcoming feature Nymphomaniac was published today,
which can be seen below...
It's a rather plain but effective piece, typical of a
director-driven European production. However it is hardly subtle - three
guesses to what the image in the middle represents... In addition to this an
official website was also launched today featuring nothing other than an
advisory precursor to return on May 16th. Details on the film are scarce but it has been confirmed that frequent von
Trier collaborator Charlotte Gainsbourg will star as the main protagonist, Joe, a
self-diagnosed nymphomaniac who tells us her erotic journey from birth to the
age of 50. Typical of von Trier it will no doubt be an utterly compelling but
bonkers watch definitely not for the faint-hearted.
Good news... or is it?! Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is back in
production. In another attempt to adapt the 2009 Seth Grahame-Smith novel, a new
director and leading lady have been assigned to the project. 17 Again director
Burr Steers has taken the directorial role whilst Lily Collins is currently in
negotiations to take the lead part. Announcements of this sort have been made
in the past but backfired so let’s not get too comfortable with this update. Fingers
crossed however, that the adaptation of this interesting twist on a literature
classic will eventually go ahead. Watch this space!
It has recently been announced that MTV have picked up the
Scream franchise for a serial adaptation. Now actively beginning to develop,
production is seeking the likes of Wes Craven to help direct the pilot episode.
To multiple rumours and assumptions, Craven tweeted the following today...
Hopefully the script will prove worthy enough to get Craven
on board. It feels only right that the man who started it all should direct
that famous white mask again.
That's it for now - what are your thoughts on the above? Post a comment!
