News: New Trailer Released for The Conjuring!

James Wan, director of films such as Insidious and Saw, will be frightening us again this July with his new feature entitled The Conjuring. The film is based on true events experienced by world renowned paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren. They are called upon by a family, seeking help regarding the dark presence that terrorizes their farmhouse.

Excitement for this film has been brewing for a while and it reached new heights last weekend at WonderCon, in which the panel treated attendees to some spooky new footage. Read what I had to say about it here. It was also revealed recently that the filmmakers were aiming for a PG-13 rating but couldn't get it because the films' scares were too intense. That's what we like to hear.

Today a new trailer was released and you can catch it below:

Personally, I found the previous teaser trailer more effective. Here, we're treated to some exciting new footage and do get a small sense of the films creepy atmosphere. But, some of the shots seem a bit clichĂ© and to me, there felt an over reliance on the quiet....LOUD technique to frighten us. Also I think it is safe to say we are perhaps desensitized to person-being-dragged-along-the-floor tactic thanks to the Paranormal Activity franchise. I'm not sure, perhaps I'm being overly cynical but surely, it is about time we got properly creeped out again? One can only hope that the film will live up to such expectations.

The Conjuring is due for release July 19th. What do you think of the new trailer? Post a comment!
