CinemaCon starts today in Las Vegas and already, we are
treated to a few promotional posters for big upcoming releases. The two most
likely to get the chins wagging (I know I’m excited) are for Insidious: Chapter 2 and Spike Lee’s remake of the Park Chan-wook classic, Oldboy.
First up is the poster for Insidious: Chapter 2.
I guess the film has enough following from its creepy predecessor
for the name ‘Insidious’ (in addition to some clever number-letter switcharoo)
to resonate with audiences, because other than that, it’s a pretty plain poster
affair. The sequel is once again directed by James Wan and features recurring cast
members Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne. The film is due for release in the US 13th
September, 2013.
Next up is the poster for Oldboy.
A far more effective and enigmatic promotional piece, this poster
features a scratched tally representing how many years our protagonist (played
by Josh Brolin) is inexplicably locked up for. For those of you who haven’t
seen the original (if not go do it...now), said imprisoned is then abruptly
released with the task of finding out the reason for his imprisonment. Queue
all matters of violence and disturbing discoveries. Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy
truly is a masterpiece so naturally, on hearing an American remake, I was
incredibly skeptical. However, I am a fan of Spike Lee’s work and have faith
in his craft. Hopefully, he’ll do a good job of it. Oldboy is set for release
October 11th, 2013.
